On gray, gloomy days all manner of creatures, great and small, yet shy of bright days, might be seen about. While gray days are not a favorite of mine, I too was out on this particular day looking for small creatures who might pause for a photograph. I did not find many on my walk through the woods and so was looking at rocks and trees for interesting shapes and textures. I did not notice until looking through my pictures later at home that I'd caught a small creature watching me as I walked in the forest earlier that afternoon. I'd never seen anything like it before. I'd only heard stories told by older lads around the campfire when I was younger. Of course no one had ever actually seen one. We thought they'd all disappeared long ago when people first came onto the land.
But it seems we were wrong. They are still among us. Watching. Waiting. And maybe if you are lucky some day, you too may glimpse one of these magical creatures when the shades come out to dance on a gloomy Halloween eve.
