Snow Fleas
Snow fleas are often seen jumping about on the surface of snow on a warm winter day in North America.
Researchers have found a glycine-rich anti-freeze-like protein, unlike any previously known protein, that allows snow fleas to operate in sub-zero environments. There are hopes that similar proteins may be useful for storing transplant organs and for producing better ice cream. Just think liver and kidney ice cream. Yum, got to be a big seller.
