Arethusa bulbosa is a threatened bog orchid in Massachusetts. Sites still hosting this rare bloom are hard to find and not given out. I was fortunate to see a few flowers on this occasion.

When leaving the site, our way was blocked by a black bear. He wanted to avoid us as much as we wanted to avoid him. While he was ambling off he stirred up a ruffed grouse. She wasn't pleased to have a bear cross her path and put on a show.
